  Sept 1 2003 WT: Is There Only One 'True Church'?

  the latest wt magazine starts out by quoting a catholic cardinal:

  just as there is one christ, so there exists a single body of christ, a single bride of christ: 'a single catholic and apostolic church.

  ........although pope john paul ii insisted that the document dominus iesus contained "no arrogance towards, or disrespect for other religions", protestant church leaders reacted strongly to it.........in june 2001, one minister said that the document was the work of "a powerful faction in the roman catholic church....scared silly by the spirit of openness introduced by vatican ii".........it appears that the....catholic curia was disturbed by what has been called religious relativism........[which is] the emergence of a pluralist theology----saying basically that one religion is as good as another...... what then, is the right view?

  Ok about Malawi. Those accounts are awful, and the idea that the org was somehow responsible is disturbing. But, um, what about the people that carried out these horrible atrocities over a 25 cent card? What was going through their heads? How did they justify murder and rape? Just something to ponder...

  Was there ever any outcry from the world community? Where was Amnesty International back then?

  Whatever happened in Malawi? I know Banda died or was deposed. Outside of Watchtower publications, I have rarely heard of it in the media. What kind of government did they have at the time, or now?

  Can the Watchtower sue one of it's own members?

  if an active or inactive jw would post something on this forum or any other board that the watchtower would consider to be their legal property, could they sue this jw even if he isn't df'd?.

  or generally speaking, could or would the watchtower society sue one of it's own active members who would post any sensitive document that is their legal property?.

  If an active or inactive JW would post something on this forum or any other board that the Watchtower would consider to be their legal property, could they sue this JW even if he isn't DF'd?

  No, they would never take a brother to court. They would DF him/her first, then start the lawsuit.

  i received the following fax this morning from my old isp(dirtclod.com was coincidentally moved the same day i received notice regarding this copyright infringement for bandwidth purposes) and was seven pages in length.

  Interesting! So, Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) is a lawyer for the Watchtower, with an email address of ([email protected]) .

  So if anyone else knows of potential copyright violations of Watchtower, maybe they should contact Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) so he is aware of it. I wonder if there is anything else we could send along to Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) ?

  Up until now, it has been difficult to contact individuals working for the Society, but now at least Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) has an email address. I see how it is made up of his first initial, then the first seven characters of his last name. I wonder if anyone else there has an email address? I wonder if it would be similar?

  I have heard how sometimes people, when they find out someone's email address, will mischieviously sign them up for unsolicited email. I hope no one here gets any ideas about doing something like that to Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]). I am sure Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) would not appreciate that.

  Yes, I find it very interesting that Mr William E Duquette Jr ([email protected]) has an email address for those who might want to contact him.

  College and EX-JW Discontent....Questions and Stats

  *many* ex-jws say that they were robbed of an education due to the wtbts and as a result, they feel that their families and the wt screwed up their life by depriving them of the opportunity to go to college and therefore, earn a high salary at a job they love.

  here is a link to the us census which shows that approximately 26% of the us population graduates college.

  Okay, here's my story.

  I could easily have gone on to college based on my academic record. Actually, my grades would have been even better if I had had the goal of pursuing higher education. Since I knew that was not very likely, I sluffed by and still got A's and B's.

  Financially it would have been tough. No JW parents have a college fund set up for their kids, at least not 10 - 20 years ago. Why, the end is right around the corner. I was assured that I would not even graduate high school because of the imminent approach of Armagedden.

  I did end up with a scholarship to attend a two-year Vocational School course in computer programming. However, I turned it down to pioneer, despite having no real way to support myself.

  My wife(also raised JW) was a straight-A student. She graduated high-school early so she could pioneer and support herself by cleaning houses.

  I finally went back to school ten years later. It was not easy after being away from the classroom for so long, and it was not cheap. But it definitely has helped me financially. Of course, I am ten years behind my colleagues, career-wise. Pioneering also meant forgoing having children, so I often wonder where my wife and I will be 20 or 30 years down the road(if Armageddon doesn't come first, of course).

  Oh where to start!! This article is filled with inaccuracies, all of which have been exhaustively documented. I will just take an easy one:

  Years later, unbeknown to the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, the United Nations published "Criteria for Association", stipulating that affiliated NGO's are required to support the goals of the UN.

  The criteria for becoming an NGO were spelled years before the Watchtower signed up in 1991.

  If there was nothing secret or wrong with what the Watchtower did, why did it condemn other churches for joining?

  It sounds like whoever wrote this "researched" the subject by reading the Org's explanation and then blindly accepting them as gospel.

  one thing i find out about more and more every week is that sooo many of you who post here are working, quietly and without fanfare, behind the scenes.

  helping get the word out to local and national newspapers, helping people like vicki, supporting those who've filed lawsuits against the wts, developing personal relationships with other posters...what we see on the board is just the tip of the iceberg.. i'll not name names (you know who you are thank you.. craig

  what have i done with my life since 1975?

  became a jw in the late 1960s ... looked forward to 1975 as early as 1968 ... so, out of a sense of duty and spirit inspired organizational hounding ... when 1974 arrived, i sold the house, sold the car, sold the wife and kids ... then moved to where the great are needed ... 1975 came and went ... .

  so did ... 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 walk away from the organization ... 1993, 1994 then it was 80 years of a special mighty generation since 1914 ... finally, 20 years later it was 1995 when i was forcibly disassociated by wts legal department ... 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 ... yikes!

Others listened and watched as Noah built the ark. They laughed and saw no signs of rain. Imagine you were there and the years passed... 2449 BCE, No Rain, ha ha, 2448 BCE, No Rain, ha ha, 2447 BCE No Rain, ha ha... down to 2371, would this be the year? No rain again, ha ha, Noah must be crazy with that stupid ark!... 2370 BCE, you're dead. Noah and his family survived.

  And where exactly did Noah get that funky backwards calendar????

  Yes its almost 2004, and the END stubbornly refuses to arrive. Will the Watchtower make any comments when 2014 arrives? Or will they completely have abandoned any attempt at a coherent chronology-based doctrine? Oh, wait, they already have!!!

  Isn't Adams president of the Pennsylvania corp, and Max Larson president of the New York, or vice versa?

  Anyway, Milty has not been president for a couple years, so his passing is irrelevant in that regard. Now there really is no one person in charge, it appears, just a vague "Governing Body." Must be God's arrangement, I guess.
